Hurricane Preparedness Week Promotes Emergency Readiness And Public Safety

In anticipation of the upcoming hurricane season, June 1st to November 30th, 2025, Governor Matt Meyer has Proclaimed May 26th to May 30th as Hurricane Preparedness Week. In support of this, The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), along with state, county and local agencies are helping communities mitigate against threats to public safety posed by hurricanes and other tropical storms.

The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) in partnership with the Delaware State Police (DSP), Appoquinimink School District, public safety personnel, and regional and state partners, conducted a full-scale emergency response exercise in Odessa on Friday, March 28. The event underscored the importance of interagency coordination in ensuring a swift, effective, and unified response to emergencies, reinforcing Delaware’s commitment to school and community safety.

The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) is joining with the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, NJ, the Center for Environmental Monitoring and Analysis (CEMA) at the University of Delaware, Delaware Department of Transportation, and Delaware Sea Grant to raise awareness. Flooding, coastal storms, tornadoes, and lightning are just some of the weather threats that can occur in Delaware, often with little warning.
